Information, Advice and Guidance on independent living solutions

Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) is an internationally acclaimed user led charity. With over 24 years’ experience of developing and delivering mobility and independent living services, our aim is to support disabled people and people living with long term health conditions.

Who are we?

Our team of over 50 staff and nearly 200 volunteers believe that information, advice and guidance are the main keys to independent living. Since our launch in 1991 we have designed, developed and, now deliver, 27 mobility and independent living services, many of which are based in our Centre for Independent Living (CIL).

View from the chair

Our Chief Executive is Dave Thompson, MBE DL, who originally founded the charity and served as our Chairman for many years before retiring from the NHS to lead WDP’s’ journey into the future. He regularly contributes a blog to this website sharing up to date news about WDP and disability in general and his thoughts on local, regional and national agendas. It’s a facinating read!

Our History

The formal roots of WDP were founded in 1991 by three local disabled people, Eric James, Alan Shaw and Dave Thompson, whilst they were members of the Dallam Day Centre operated by Warrington Borough Council. Sadly Eric and Alan died in early 2015. Initially titled the Warrington Information Group for the Disabled they volunteered to collate information about access and facilities of local shops and services. This work was stored on a database titled INCHES (Information in Cheshire) which was operated by Cheshire County Council.
