HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire; Founder Cheshire Community Foundation and Cheshire Connect
David was appointed HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire in March 2010. In this role, he has been a key player in the creation of the Cheshire Community Foundation and has also set up Cheshire Connect, a charity which harnesses the skills of the business and professional world and introduces skilled people to charities and voluntary organisations who need business skills.
Since 1972, he has been Managing Director of several companies including businesses in transport, travel, plastics, confectionery and musical instruments. He was Managing Director of Dawsons Music from 1979 to 2010 when he became Chairman. Dawsons Music has grown to become one of the leading retailers and distributors of musical instruments in the UK.
David is also Managing Director of Maxilin Ltd a confectionery manufacturing business with factories in Bolton and Glossop. Approaching 40% of Maxilin’s turnover is exported to Scandinavia where the company is seeing significant growth.
He has been involved with the voluntary sector since 1975; not least with St John Ambulance who appointed him a Knight of the Order of St John in 2011.
He was High Sheriff of Cheshire in 2006-7 and was appointed MBE for his services to St John and the community in Cheshire in 2009.
