Most people experience stress and anxiety at some point in their lives, and depending on the level of severity, they can both detrimentally impact quality of life for those suffering directly and their family members.
Figures on 23rd Jan 2020 from a Commons briefing paper showed an estimated 1 in 6 adults and young people were experiencing a ‘common mental disorder’ like ANXIETY.
The Pandemic, being a major cause of STRESS, has made these statistics even worse, with the number of people reporting high levels of anxiety being sharply elevated, and the impact likely to continue for some time.
The return to educational settings, the adjustment to physical environments with close physical contact and perceived risks, and the uncertainty ahead for studies and exams for many of our young people has now exacerbated the anxiety levels of both children and parents/carers.
Often people use the words Anxiety and Stress interchangeably as the physical, behavioural and emotional responses and symptoms of both can be very similar.
But there is a major difference; and it is very important to know the different origins so as to know how best to manage and reduce the impact.
Kalini will be explaining the major differences between Anxiety and Stress, the impact on health and symptoms to looks out for, plus giving strategies and coping mechanisms to manage both.
She will also be explaining more about our individual Stress Containers. This will be presented in a format that can benefit all attendees but will be of particular relevance to parents/carers/family scenarios.
Kalini works with parents, young people and businesses, 1:1, in schools and through workshops, helping them with their mental wellbeing, confidence, resilience and mindset. She is an MHFA Mental Health First Aider for Adults and Youth and Youth Mindfulness Practitioner for Primary and Teens.
